Public Lecture with the theme "Coaching Psychology: Concepts and Practices in Education and the World of Work"

On Thursday, June 13, 2024, a public lecture was held with the theme "Coaching Psychology: Concepts and Practices in Education and the World of Work" at the Convention Hall, 2nd floor, UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. This event was organized by the Psychology Study Program, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities and was opened directly by Dr. Mochamad Sodik, M.Sc. as the dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, UIN Sunan Kalijaga. Furthermore, Mrs. Lisnawati, M.Psi., Psychologist as the head of the FISHUM psychology study program gave a speech and was continued by Mrs. Dr. Rachmy Diana, M.A., Psychologist as the moderator.

This public lecture was filled by resource persons, Mr. Prof. Dr. Seger Handoyo, Psychologist, Professor of Industrial and Organizational Psychology and Lecturer in Psychology at Airlangga University (UNAIR) and this event was attended by all psychology students from the 2022 and 2023 classes.

In a company, of course, the company wants its employees to be productive, have positive and loyal work behavior, but as employees they also want their well-being to be fulfilled (well being), to be able to develop themselves and their careers. This difference in desires sometimes makes the two incompatible, so that both can be achieved and both feel happy and benefited, a mental coach or "Psychological Coaching" is needed.Coaching is providing learning and development facilities, and has the goal of increasing effective action performance and personal satisfaction of the person being helped or coachee. Coaching and Counseling are two similar but not the same things, the difference between Coaching and Counseling lies in its main purpose.

If Counseling is intended to change poor performance to be better or is intended to help people who have personal problems or who themselves become problems. While Coaching aims to help others to be able to develop themselves, it is also used as a preventive function so that performance problems do not occur from the start, providing stimulation so that employees have commitment from the first time they work.Some of the uses of Coaching are learning new skills or improving capabilities, improving performance, solving business problems related to personal problems in work situations, preparing future leaders and finding the meaning of life, satisfaction and balance between work and life.
