“Turning Crisis into Clarity: Fight the Stigma by Overcoming Adversity”

Yogyakarta, October 8, 2024. World Mental Health Day is commemorated every October 10 and is an important moment to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining mental health. In this regard, the Clinical Laboratory of the Psychology Study Program, Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, UIN Sunan Kalijaga together with the Association of Psychology Student Institutions (ILMPI) Region IV, held a commemoration of World Mental Health Day with the theme "Turning Crisis into Clarity: Fight the Stigma by Overcoming Adversity" which focuses on improving mental and physical well-being in the surrounding environment. In order to improve mental health, this theme can summarize the importance of managing oneself well to create a healthier and more fighting spirit society. This is in line with the understanding of self-regulation, namely the ability of individuals to control themselves, especially in bringing themselves to the desired standard of behavior or to adjust their inner responses to various situations faced. With resilience and self-regulation, a person can adjust themselves to face various difficulties and achieve the standard of living they want. This event was attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Mrs. Dr. Erika Setyanti Kusumaputri, S.Psi., M.Si; Head of Psychology Study Program, Mrs. Lisnawati S.Psi., M.Psi; Head of Psychology Laboratory, Mr. Dr. Zidni Immawan Muslimin, S.Psi., M.Si and lecturers from the psychology study program.

The WMHD event held two activities, namely Peer Counseling with the theme "Peer Counseling With High Empathy and Integrity" which was held on October 5, 2024 and a seminar with the theme "Turning Crisis into Clarity: Fight the Stigma by Overcoming Adversity" which was held on October 8, 2024. The peer counseling activity was carried out in two sessions with material presented by Mrs. Itsna Mawadda Rahmah S.Psi., M.A. Meanwhile, the seminar activity began with a psychodrama performance depicting current mental health issues, followed by remarks from various parties, including the Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Mrs. Dr. Erika Setyanti Kusumaputri, S.Psi., M.Sc., Head of the Psychology Laboratory, Mr. Dr. Zidni Immawan Muslimin, S.Psi., and the Chairperson of the WMHD Executive Board Fatima Zahra Kamila. The WMHD seminar invited two main speakers, namely Mrs. Dr. Pihasniwati S.Psi., M.A., Psychologist as a lecturer and psychologist from the Metamorphosis Psychology Bureau who discussed the topic of quarter life crisis and suicide stigma, and Mr. Syaiful Fakhri, S.Psi., M.Psi as a psychology lecturer and HR practitioner who raised the topic of mental health in the workplace.
